Description

In the shade of trees, on a slope directly above the center of the village of Jalová, there is a historic, sacral gem - the Greek Catholic wooden church of St. George. The wooden church was built in 1792. It is small but sufficient for the conditions at that time. The temple has a simple log construction and is built on a stone foundation.

From an architectural point of view, it is a classic three-room, three-part, two-tower temple with two three-arm metal crosses, which were commonly built at the time. The exterior façade of the period, however, conceals an impressive and very valuable iconostasis from the 17th century, which, for spatial reasons, is not complete.

The wooden church in Jalová has undergone several smaller and larger reconstructions. Nowadays, liturgy is served in the church every Sunday and on holidays. In addition to worship, the interior of the church can be visited after an agreement with the Greek Catholic parish office in Stakčín.
